The Great Outdoors at Quiet Waters Park

Walk, jog or bike more than 6 miles of paved trails through hardwood forests and lush fields, or have the band-aids and kisses on hand at the multi-level children’s playground (not that the playground is dangerous but we all know how the kiddos can be…). Tucked between South River and Harness Creek, Quiet Waters Park is also well known for expansive views along the South River promenade and 340 acres of thriving park lands, ideal for a romantic picnic. Make sure to stop by the Visitor’s Center and explore the formal gardens and art galleries. Rent a large pavilion for outdoor celebrations and cookouts or reserve space at the charming Blue Heron Center for weddings, receptions, corporate events and more.

2012 Annapolis Greek Festival

Unleash your inner Grecian god or goddess at the Annapolis Greek Festival, hosted by Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. May 31 and June 1 – 3, join us in celebrating more than 100 years of Greek culture and heritage in Annapolis. From authentic cuisine to traditional entertainment, enjoy four days of family-fun to commemorate all things Greek.

Food

Lunch and dinner will be served indoors at the community center with two special additions this year - for the first time the festival will feature nightly dinner specials and an outdoor café and taverna serving mezes, soulvakia and salads. Menu items include vegetarian dolmades, avgolemono, classic Greek salad, chicken oreganato, moussaka, Greek fries, gyro sandwiches and baklava sundaes, just to name a few.

Entertainment

Dance performers will include children and adult dance troupes as well as a special performance and dance workshop featuring the award winning Senior Aegean Odyssey Dancers. Live music provided by Bouzouki Nights, a lively band who have performed all over the U.S. and Greece.

Make sure to check out the artisan tent, home to a variety of imported gifts, a grocer’s corner and delectable Greek pastries. Summer Concert Series in Annapolis

It’s time to go back to the summers of our youth. Sultry days when, as the sun broke, we were already careening out the front door with Mom yelling after us to finish our breakfasts - not to return till the streetlights cast little pools of yellowish light on the sidewalk. Days that weren’t spent lolling about in front of the TV or computer, eyes glazed, in a relative zombie state. The Annapolis Summer Concert Series is a revival of those cherished summers. Time to spend with friends and family in the summer twilight, listening to fantastic music (crickets included) and enjoying the simple things.

On Friday nights, the city of Annapolis converges on Downs Park for refreshing bay breezes and free, family-friendly concerts featuring a variety of live musical performances spanning big band/swing, country, rock, oldies, pop and blue grass. Saturdays, head to Quiet Waters Park with your lawn chairs or blankets and favorite adult cocktails for a night of big band/swing, pop, rock, phat blues or jazz performances.

This summer, break the cycle of talk shows, soap operas and moronic prime time sitcoms with inspiring music, great friends, and family bonding at the Annapolis Summer Concert Series.
