One of only five Federal Service Academies in the United States, the U.S. Naval Academy is one of our most prestigious military institutions. Founded in 1845, the USNA serves as the starting point in the careers of today's naval officers, as well as officers in the Marine Corps, Army, Air Force and U.S. Coast Guard.

Students enter UNSA as Fourth Class Midshipmen, or "plebes", and continue on a rigorous 4-year course ending in graduation and mandatory commissioning into the U.S. Armed Services. Along with a challenging academic curriculum, all midshipmen are required to participate in intercollegiate or intramural athletics. The U.S. Naval Academy sports teams, the "Midshipmen", maintain a fierce rivalry with U.S. Army from West Point, establishing a year's worth of bragging rights at the annual Army-Navy Football Game.
